But that means doing the things you love—whether that’s through hobbies, passions, or just living authentically. Either way, you don’t have to force it.
I used to think it was me.
That I wasn’t interesting enough.
Or funny enough.
Or something-enough
I’d get the late invitations—you know, the ones that ended with ‘if you want’. The half-smiles that didn’t quite reach their eyes. The conversations that didn’t go beyond small talk. And somehow, I’d find myself up at 2:58 a.m, replaying every word I said, wondering if the awkward silences were my doing.
It wasn’t until later that I realised—no, actually—it wasn’t me.
It really wasn’t. Still, there’s no drama to tell you about though. No wild stories, hair-pulling, or name-calling.
The space simply wasn’t for me, and these weren’t my people.
You know when they are.
For one, they don’t make you feel like a second thought.
You don’t have to vie for their attention or bend yourself into shapes that don’t fit.
With them, the conversation flows.
The smiles feel real. And when you go home, you don’t lie awake overthinking or analysing something you might have said.
Even if it was something silly (like I often do), you’ll sleep and won’t even give it a thought.
Of course, there’ll be those days when you feel a little alone. It happens to the best of us—especially when you’re living abroad.
But you’ve got to remind yourself: there are over 8 billion people on this planet.
And yes, I believe you have to go out and find your people.
But that means doing the things you love—whether that’s through hobbies, passions, or just living authentically. Either way, you don’t have to force it.
And when things don’t feel aligned, here’s a little reminder:
It’s OK to say no when something feels off. It’s OK to stay quiet when you don’t have the energy. And it’s more than OK to shed the skin that doesn’t fit, to move with the rhythm that feels true to you.
Because somewhere out there, someone is dancing to the same rhythm, and before the song ends, your paths will cross.
