One minute, we were all waving goodbye to August, and now, look—September is practically over. It’s been a fresh month, weather-wise, but just about a week ago, London experienced an Indian Summer.

Now, I remember the uproar when people discovered that Brits refer to getting Chinese takeaway as ‘fancying a Chinese’ So, just in case you’re wondering what an Indian Summer is, let me explain.

An Indian Summer is just what we (btw, not just the Brits) call a spell of unseasonably warm weather after the first frost—typically in late autumn. But since temperatures dipped into single digits earlier in the month, it might as well have been autumn already!

So, like any true Londoner, I did what many of us do on a random hot day—let alone during an Indian Summer—and booked an afternoon off to soak up the sunshine 🌞

The city is beautiful in the sunshine, no matter where you go. But on days like that, I always find that parks or bodies of water are the best spots.

I ended up walking along Regent’s Canal, which, may or may not have led to a cheeky glass of wine at Wetherspoons during sunset.

Walking along Regent’s Canal, I was surprised by how much there is to see—mainly other barges and, of course, the lovely scenery.

I tried to imagine what life on a barge would be like. Could you see yourself living on one? Not gonna lie, I doubt I’d be as excited about barge life after a wet and soggy day.

Although, I did stumble acrossa bookstore on a barge, which definitely swayed the decision. The bookshop—Word on the Water, is an independent shop (which I love, shop local and all that).

Though that day was all about the outdoors, they do host poetry readings and book clubs there—something to put in your back pocket for autumn (proper autumn). The idea of cosying up with a good book while floating on the water? Now, that’s something I could totally get on board with.

And of course, as a wannabe photographer, I couldn’t resist taking a “few” snaps. I couldn’t decide on just one, so here they all are!
