Sharing a photo with you today from Gozo. So, fun fact: There are at least 50 beaches in Malta (and Gozo and, and Comino—it’s an archipelago, after all) from sandy ones to rocky ones and dog-friendly ones to those fringed by sprawling countryside.
Each is beautiful in its own right. (Now, it almost sounds like I’m describing people).
But then some have a little something extra—or what, the French call: ‘Je ne sais quoi’ (some things just sound so much better in French, don’t you think).
In this case, that would be Ramla Bay ( or Ir-Ramla l-Ħamra in Maltese), the reddish-hued beach that has made its way to the Top 6 of the World’s Most Beautiful Red Beaches.
So, if you’re visiting Malta or Gozo for that matter, make sure you add Ramla Bay to your ‘gotta go see’ list. Just because—how often do you see a red beach?

Beyond its striking red looks, Ramla Bay, is also steeped in mythological intrigue.
I took this shot moments away from Calypso Cave–the very one mentioned in Homer’s Odyssey (Odysseus in Greek). The Mediterranean has long been the backdrop for many Greek myths and legends.
And the short of the story goes…
Calypso was kept here by Ulysses with the promise that she’d grant him immortality. Anyway, turns out that despite their physical relationship, Calypso was an ‘unwilling lover’ and really missed his wife. So, after seven years (seven-year itch maybe?), he returned to his wife, Penelope, in Ithaca.
All I’m gonna say is: Typical.
But I digress.
Unfortunately, Calypso Cave is currently undergoing restoration works, so for now, it’s closed for health and safety. But, there is the gem Tal Mixta Cave, over on the opposite side which also overlooks gorgeous views of Ramla Bay Beach.
Sooo, have you visited Ramla Bay or any other Mediterranean places with Greek myths and legends?
